Presentations are essential in your emerging business career. No matter what your field or specialty, no matter whether your work is in international or domestic business, you will be called upon frequently to make presentations. Becoming an excellent presenter could be what sets you apart from other business professionals.
Wouldn’t it be great if your associates looked forward to your presentations and considered you the best person for the job when it came to selling a new idea or product? Here are five tips for making your presentations above board:
- Think like a journalist. Be sure that your presentation answers “who, what, where, when, and why” and gives all the factual information necessary in a concise format.
- Practice your opening. It should be 10 to 20 percent of the length of the entire presentation and should entice listeners to want to hear more. Open with humor, intriguing statistics, a vision of the future, or any other method to grab peoples’ attention.
- The body of your presentation should offer a series of points. Each should begin with a statement of fact, then material and information to back it up.
- Avoid technical terms or jargon. Speak as if your audience is not familiar with the subject matter.
- Avoid nervousness by using deep breathing techniques or other relaxation exercises before the presentation. Going in relaxed, calm, and self-assured is essential.
